Foundations of Gait (1 Day)

This is a basic-intermediate level course and is suitable for anyone who is keen to learn about gait in neurological populations.

  • Students studying health science disciplines (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, exercise science, exercise physiology, prosthetics and orthotics)

  • Early-mid career clinicians from the above disciplines

  • Clinicians returning from a career break or want to switch careers

Here is what you will walk away with:

  • Quickly sift through relevant and irrelevant observations and recognise patterns of compensation vs primary impairments.

  • Gain confidence in understanding how the brain prioritises gait speed, balance and stability

  • Understand the unique invisible forces at work that elevate your gait training skills to another level

  • Learn when and how to use a treadmill effectively, including manual guidance, cues, load training and faded approaches.

  • Learn when it is wise to bring in an AFO, what type and how to use them effectively. Consider what will aid vs hinder recovery and long term outcomes.

  • Bring your own gait case to the course! Apply your knowledge with your own or others’ case-based learning and justifiable treatment plans that you can use immediately.

  • All participants will get exclusive access for 30 days to our private community for implementation support so you can try your new skills with confidence and guidance!
